Virgil Andrew Segrest I, of Spurger, was born January 3, 1943 to parents Virgil Luther and Andy Lea Segrest. Virgil returned to his Heavenly home April 13, 2022. Virgil was the best husband, Daddy, brother, and Pa. He loved his family more than anything, especially his wife of 55 years, Linda. He was a shining example of sacrifice and dedication to the ones he loved. He taught his children the importance of hard work and always led by example.
Virgil was a graduate of Spurger High School and served in the Army before marrying his sweetheart in August of 1966. Virgil had a love for cars, old trucks--especially old Chevy’s--, and basketball. If the UConn Lady Huskies were on, he could be found in front of the TV cheering them on. He was an all-time kidder and couldn’t live without his Dr. Pepper. Virgil was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Andy Lea Segrest; his brother, Bobby Segrest; and his daughter, Jill Segrest. He is survived by his wife, Linda Gayle Hicks Segrest; son Virgil Segrest and wife Kassie; son Daron Segrest; daughter Jennifer Hutson and husband Paul; and daughter Ginger Dykes and husband Will. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cody Winkle and wife Baylee, Cole Segrest, Caleb Winkle, Blake Dykes, Corey Segrest, Trinity Dykes, Alyssa Smith, Tucker Dykes, Addison Dykes, and Andrew Segrest, and great-grandson- Peyton Winkle. Other survivors include his sisters, Jean Jordan, Vickey Sheffield and Pam Rebbe; brother Carl Ray Flowers, and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Family will receive visitors on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 10 AM. Visitation and service will both be held at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas. Interment will follow service at Town Bluff Cemetery.
