Thomas Thornton Obituary

Thomas Edward “Tommy” Thornton, 72, of Woodville passed away March, 2021.

 

Born August 20, 1948 in Overton, Texas to C. T. Thornton and Georgia Mae Dear, he spent his childhood all over the Southeast Texas Piney Woods.  Tommy was enlisted in to the U.S. Army at the age of 18 where he served from 1966 to 1973, including two tours in Vietnam. Upon retirement, he worked on a horse ranch breaking and training horses. He spent the rest of his time raising five daughters, and many others who adopted him as “Uncle Tommy”.    He loved the outdoors especially camping and fishing with his family.  His boisterous laugh was contagious to everyone around.  Tommy never met a stranger and it showed in the generosity of his giving nature. 

 

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, C.T. Thornton and Georgia Mae Dear; daughter, Tracy Philson and nephew, Daniel Summerlin.

 

He is survived by his loving family, daughters, Chelsey Taylor Thornton, Hope Turner and husband, Tim, Angie Aldredge and Jessica Smith and husband, Neil; grandchildren, Chris Turner and wife, Shelbie Newman Turner, Sarah Turner, Ashley Day and husband, Bryce, Elizabeth Philson, Justin Smith and wife, Kyrstin, Jacy Wallace, Jordan, Jesse and Joanna Smith; great grandchildren, Jason and Alice Turner, Silas Moore, Aiden and Deaglan Day, Ta’Nyah Ellis and Tahj Ellis, Jr.; ex wife, Debby Dunn; siblings, Regina Summerlin, Colesta Armstrong and husband, David, George Parsons and wife, Karen; and all his other “heathens”.

 

Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 2 pm at the Victory Baptist Church in Town Bluff.
