Thomas Ralph Reid, 73, of Woodville passed away September 17, 2020.
Born in Iowa, he retired from the U.S. Army as a First Sergeant with six years of active duty and sixteen years of active army reserves. He lived in Woodville for many years. Thomas received his Master of Arts Degree from Lamar University where he later became Associate Professor of History there. He was awarded first prize for historical research in 1992 by the Walter Prescott Webb Society and published two books, Spartan Band (Burnett’s 15th Texas Calvary in the Civil War) and America’s Fortress (A history of Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas, Florida). He was well loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alma Reid, brother, Paul Reid and a son, Paul Reid.
He is survived by his loving wife, Paulien Reid; son, William E. Reid; daughter, Frances Ballew; grandchildren, Isabella Ballew and Travis Reid; sister, Michelle Reid. He will be loved and missed by family and friends.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 27, 2020, at 2 pm at the Camp Ground Cemetery in Woodville with Brother Jerry DuBose officiating.
