Roy Douglas Tompkins 77, of Colmesneil passed away October 23, 2023.
Born June 20, 1946 in Port Arthur, Texas to Geroge and Inez Tompkins, he lived in Colmesneil for many years. He was inducted into the U. S. Army on November 15, 1966 and was honorable discharged on November 8, 1968. He served in the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Roy was a faithful employee of the Southern Pacific Railroad, Union Pacific Railroad and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. A faithful member of the Rockland Baptist Church for forty-three years, he served as a Deacon and Song Director. He was always willing to provide maintenance and upkeep of the church facilities and help where needed.
Roy was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Savoie Bares; father, Geroge Harrison Tompkins; sister, Carol Wylie and husband, Raymond; brother, George Tompkins and wife, Carol; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Odessa and JR Henderson; sisters-in-law, Rita Tompkins and Kathy Beauchamp; bothers-in-law, Leon Dickens, Jr and Bryan Henderson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Tompkins; brother, Reuben Tompkins; sister-in-law, Donna Sue Dickens; brother-in-law, Roy Beauchamp; daughter, Amy Marshall and husband, Charles, granddaughter, Courtney McHenry and husband, Daniel, Grandson, Nicholas Powell; son, Doug Tompkins and wife, Michelle, granddaughter, Lindsay Tompkins, grandson, Dylan Tompkins; son, Kevin Tompkins and wife, Lindsey, granddaughter, Alexa Tompkins, grandson, Payten Tompkins; daughter, Stephanie Tompkins, granddaughter, Destiny Evans and husband, Trystan, grandson, Skyler Tompkins; great grandchildren, Gracie Bruton, Charlsie McHenry, Stevie Tompkins and Sterling Tompkins; and a host of other family members and friends.e iH
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 2 pm at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Rockland City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12 pm until 2 pm at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Beauchamp, Daniel McHenry, Trystan Evans, Skyler Tompkins, Dylan Tompkins and Nicholas Powell. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Joe Conner.
