Richard Gaylord Downing, 70, of Vidor passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on May 24, 2022.
Born March 16, 1952 in Woodville, Texas to Joseph and Bonnie Downing, he lived in Vidor for many years. He was a long haul truck driver who loved hunting, camping, fishing, archery and exploring nature. A great storyteller of truth and wild imagination he had a playful demeanor and a creative imagination that kept everyone laughing. A dedicated husband, brother, father and grandfather who excelled in martial arts, he will forever be remembered as “Ninja Pop Pop”.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bonnie Downing; brother, Joseph Downing; daughters, Sheena Downing and Deanna Downing; step-son, Ricky Dale Bynum, Sr. and granddaughter, Samantha Ricki-Deniese Frankenfield.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Wilda Deniese Downing; brother, Larry Downing; children, Valarie Bynum, Johnny Bynum, Jr., Glenn “Buddy” Stark, Jr.; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, May 29, 2022, at 11 am at the Bethany Baptist Cemetery in Colmesneil, Texas.
