Robert Wilburn (Bob) West, 86, went Home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2020.
Bob, or Pappy, as he was affectionately known by all of his family and friends, was born in Woodville, TX on June 26, 1933. He graduated from Kirby High School in Woodville in 1950 at the age of 16 and immediately began his career in the oil industry. He retired from Gulf Oil/Chevron Oil in 1990, spending the majority of his career working in West Africa. When he wasn’t working, he loved camping, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and in his later years he was an avid bird-watcher.
Pappy was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Jean Weaver West;his parents, Riley Jack and Lela West; and his sisters, Alice Spivey, and Juanita Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shirley Berry West; brother, Bill West and wife Lorri;sister, Betty Stanley; daughter, Amber West; son, Robert W. West, Jr. (Rusty) and wife Leslie; and daughter, Angela West Richardson and husband Doug. Pappy loved and adored his 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville, TX on Friday, May 8, 2020 from 10:00am until 11:00am. Pappy’s Home-going celebration will follow at 11:00am, with his son, Pastor Rusty West of Hillister Assembly of God, officiating. Burial service will be held at Allison Cemetery in Warren, TX. Pallbearers are his grandsons,Matthew Odes Middlebrook, Robert W. West, III (Bobby), Zak West, Levi North West, Matt Lambeth, Jaz Troy-Douglas Richardson, and Kiyoshi West Richardson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Hillister Assembly of God building fund would be appreciated, as Pappy was a devoted, long-time member of this church.
