Nancy Norman Butz passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, at her residence in Spurger, Texas, at the age of 77, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Nancy was born on December 27, 1946, on the family property in Spurger, to Joy Spraggins and Charlie Phillips. She graduated from Beaumont High School. Shortly afterward, she married James “Eddie” Norman and lived in various cities during his time in the U.S. Navy. After 11 years, they returned to Spurger to raise their three beautiful daughters, Sherry Norman Kennett, Theresa Norman Cowart, and Tanya Norman Roberts.
Nancy was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished “Nana”, and a gentle soul who spent her life involved with and giving back to the very community that welcomed her into this life – a rarity in today’s world. She loved to sing in the church choir, teach Sunday school classes, and volunteer at both Spurger United Methodist Church, where she raised her family, and later, at Beech Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters Sherry (James Kennett), Theresa (Randy Cowart), Tanya (Kevin Roberts); grandchildren Halle Roberts Bannon (Travis Bannon), Allison Roberts, Madison Cowart, Logan Cowart, Sam Kennett; great-grandson Micah Bannon; sisters Connie Griffith, Donna Rabalais; and various nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles (Marvin) Phillips, her second husband Steve Butz, and brothers-in-law William Griffith and Greg Rabalais.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the compassionate care Nancy received from her caregivers during the final years of her life; Keitha, Nancy, Miesha and Dorothy. The care and attention that they gave her was truly outstanding. The family is also grateful for all the staff associated with her care at Hospice Care Team - Beaumont.
For such a quiet, unassuming life, Nancy leaves on this earth a legacy of love, kindness and Christian hospitality, and a devoted family. While we know that she is now free to dance with the angels, we will miss her dearly.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests, with gratitude, that memorial contributions in Nancy’s name be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association at P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011, or visit www.alz.org.
The family plans a small private service.
Services are held under the direction of Riley Funeral Home, Woodville, Texas.
