Matthew Gill, Jr. Obituary

Matthew Gill, Jr., 81, of Woodville passed away November 13, 2021.

Born July 22, 1940, in Kirbyville, Tx to Matt & Mary Gill, he grew up in Merryville, LA until he left for the army where he did 3 tours of duty in the Vietnam War. When he returned from service he settled in Doucette Tx and married  Esther Gill. They later moved to Woodville after building a home together and starting a new job with Santa Fe Railroad up until his retirement. He later purchased land outside the city and built a small 2 bedroom home for him and his wife to relax during their golden years.  He was known for being a great provider and loving father. He was very skilled with his hands. Often did odd jobs on the side to create cash flow. He loved cutting trees down and didn't see any that in his opinion didn't deserve to stay. He did a lot of work on his own or with his boys by his side. Problem  was his boys couldn't walk a mile in his shoes. He remained this way until the end.

Thank you father for blessing us with a father with all his knowledge. He was a great man to us all in some special way. May he rest in peace until he hears your son's voice Jesus calls him back to life. We'll be waiting for you. Love you so very much.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Esther B. Gill; parents, Matthew and Mary Gill, Sr.; sisters, Florastine Gill, Modestina Gill/Knighton and Josie Gill/McCoy; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gill.

Matthew is survived by his children, Deborah G Hill and husband Garland, Matthew Gill III, Tammy L Curtis and husband Eddie, Inez  S Joseph and husband Alvin E., Tyrone M Delgado, Marcus D Gill and wife Felicia L, Melvin T Gill, Shereka Ellis and husband  Leo ,Jr. ;Step daughters, Vivian Miller, Cathy Gambrel; Siblings, Robert Gill and wife Janetta, Lloyd Gill, Bennie Gill and wife Audrey Gill; Aunt, Virginia Gill Washington; Uncles, Bobby Gill and Harold Gill; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews who he enjoyed and loved dearly.
