Margie Evelyn Mott, 92, of Spurger passed away September 4, 2023.
Born on September 4, 1931 in Beaumont, Texas to L. P. and Annie Hicks, she lived in Spurger most of her life. She graduated from Spurger High School as Historian and married the love of her life, Robert Mott, in 1948. She retired from the U. S. Postal Service as Postmaster Officer in Charge and was part owner of Mott Wholesale. Margie loved to cook for her family and sewed with love quilts that she gave her family. She was a member of the Raggie Mae Quilters Guild where many a quilt was donated.
Margie taught Sunday School at Rosedale Baptist Church in Beaumont, First Baptist Church in Spurger and held a Prayer Service in her home every Tuesday. She led many people to the Lord through her worship and prayers.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents, L. P. Hicks and Annie Strange Hicks; husband, Robert Mott; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lyda Lee and W. E. “Pete” Hollis, Janice and Dub Daniels, Glynell and Carl Redmon; a granddaughter, Stacy Mott.
She is survived by her loving children, Aline and Dennis Whitmire of Spurger, Kathy and Phillip Broom of Woodville, Rusty and Judy Mott of Spurger, Marvin and Kathy Mott of Spurger; ten grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, September 8, 2023, at 10 am at the First Baptist Church in Spurger with burial to follow at the Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 5 pm until 8 pm at the First Baptist Church in Spurger.
Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Whitmire, Ben Mott, Brad Mott, Kyle Mott, Luke Voth and Jack Voth.
