Linda Gayle Hicks Segrest, of Spurger, was born January 19, 1948 to parents John Mooney and Jennie V Hicks. Linda returned to her heavenly home on October 21, 2022. Linda was the most wonderful mother to her children and Ma to her grandchildren. She taught them by example to love one another, forgive those who wrong you, and pray without ceasing. She served and cared for others with Christ-like love each and every day of her life.
Linda was a graduate of Spurger High School. She married her sweetheart, Virgil, on August 19, 1966. Linda loved being home to take care of her children as they grew. Most any day, her kitchen would be filled with the smells of fresh baked goodies. She would bake things to sell for school fundraisers, bake and decorate cookies and cakes for all occasions and holidays, and bake items to share with her friends and family as often as she could. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and some of her favorite times were teaching the primary children.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Virgil Andrew Segrest; parents Mooney and Jennie V Hicks, and daughter Jill Segrest.
She is survived by: son Virgil Segrest and wife Kassie; son Daron Segrest; daughter Jennifer Hutson and husband Paul; and daughter Ginger Dykes and husband Will. She is also survived by her grandchildren Cody Winkle and wife Baylee, Cole Segrest, Caleb Winkle, Blake Dykes, Corey Segrest, Trinity Dykes, Alyssa Smith, Tucker Dykes, Addison Dykes, and Andrew Segrest, and great-grandsons- Peyton Winkle and Stetson Reeves. Other survivors include her sister, Lucy Puntes, and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2022, at 10 am at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at the Town Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Avalon Place in Kirbyville for their love and care.
