Leonard "Jim" Brown Obituary

Leonard “Jim” Preston Brown, 86, of Hillister passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on April 28, 2023.

Born in Fisherville, Virginia to Charles M. Brown and Elsie Monroe Brown, he lived in Woodville before moving to Hillister.  Jim loved and adored his wife, Jean, his children and grandchildren, his land, working cows and taking a drive with his dogs in the morning.  Jim was a carpenter who loved working with his hands no matter if it was to earn a living or project being built for a loved one.

Whether sitting on the front porch watching the sun go down, being outside, or watching the Dallas Cowboys, Jim’s love for the Lord came first.  He was Christian man who instilled this in his family.  He took to heart the Lord’s words and especially loved the Book of Psalms.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elsie Brown; an infant daughter; seven brothers, Hubert Lyle “Gertie” Brown, Charles M. Brown, Jr., Theodore Brown, Thomas Brown, Maynard Brown, Boyd “Buck Brown and Chuck Monroe; four sisters, Vera Brown, Mildred Brown, Alice Staton and Carolyn Brown; nephews and nieces, Billy Bower, Ronnie Brown, Danny Clatterbaugh, Eric Brown, Hannah Fauber and Alex Fauber.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jean Stone Brown; children, Randall P. Brown and wife, Dorothy of Port Neches, Dana K. Waldrep and husband, Kevin of Nederland, Daniel K. Brown and wife, Sheryl of Colmesneil; grandchildren, Nikki and R. J. Fernandez, Brett and Erica McPhatter, Jessica and Dewey Merren, Jordan and Bethaney Waldrep, Madison and Tyler Clark, Colt Brown, Connor and Ray Newcomb, Chloe Brown and Gage Brown; numerous great grandchildren; brothers, Lester Brown wife, Carol and Gary Brown and wife, Dreama; sisters, Joyce Clatterbaugh and husband, Vaiden, Dot Hancock-Hall and Liz Little and husband, Mike; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, friends and his beloved dogs, Charlie and Thumper.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 2 pm at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at the Fellowship Cemetery in Warren, Texas.  Visitation will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 1 pm until 2 pm at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brett McPhatter, Jordan Waldrep, Colt Brown, Gage Brown, Dewey Merren, Mike Smith, R. J. Fernandez and Bryce McMorris.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Connor Newcomb and Tyler Clark.
