José Luis Cordero Jr. Age 73, Tomball Texas. Jose passed quietly and peacefully at Park Manor at CyFair Hospice Facility in Houston Texas on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 12:07 AM Central time after a long battle with complications from a Stroke.
José was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 11th, 1950, to his parents Carmen Rivera Cordero and José Luis Cordero Sr. In 1960, when he was ten years old, the growing family moved to Texas to a chicken farm. For three years José helped with farm chores and the raising of 15,000 chickens for processing. His mother continued her nursing career and his father ran the farm while his grandmother helped at home. Then, in 1963 the family moved to Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Not long after moving it was clear that they all belonged back in Texas. So, before a year had passed everyone was back in Woodville, Texas. This time not on a chicken farm, but a brand new home and José started his freshman year at Woodville High school. After graduating High School he secured a scholarship to Sam Houston State University to study music. As paths changed he found himself working on an Oil Rig in the Gulf of Mexico, and later moving to a long and fulfilling career with Exxon, now ExxonMobil, starting as a draftsman and concluding as Lead Asset Manager for the greater Houston area. After retiring in 2008, he managed an AutoZone store before finally retiring to his home in Spring, Texas and realizing his dream of finally owning a yellow Corvette convertible. His love for trumpet playing passed down three generations. His love for all things cars and Corvette has also passed to his children. He was always one for using nicknames and went by many himself. Luisito, Joe, Uncle Joe, Ugly, Pops, Paw Paw…always bringing a smile to others. He is best remembered for his pride for his three children and two grandchildren whom he loved more than anything else. Most of all his passion for helping others and being with family has been a core value instilled by him in everyone he knew.
He is survived by his mother Carmen Rivera Cordero; sisters Carmen Cordero McCaw, Maria Teresa “Terri” Cordero Boedeker; brothers Rafael Cordero, Carlos Cordero; his three children José Luis Cordero III, Nicholas Luis Cordero, Abigale Lucinda Cordero; and two grandchildren José Luis Cordero IV and Maxton Owen Cordero, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Riley Funeral Home, 913 Hwy 190, Woodville Texas on Monday, August 5th at 2:00PM Central Time.
Many thanks to my brother Nicholas and sister Abby for their care for our father during his final years of life. Despite long distances and split families, we have always remained close. I know I can say this confidently that we have idolized our father. From him we have learned forgiveness, compassion, and empathy. That is the legacy of our father living on with us. I love you - “Little Joe”
