John Wayne Obituary

John Massey Wayne, M.D., FASCP passed away on October 30, 2020 in Beaumont, Texas. He was born March 28, 1968 at Lockbourne Air Force Base, Ohio to Kermit and Marguerite (Massie) Wayne. Following his graduation from Logan High School in Ohio, he served in the United States Air Force as a Medical Technician with posts including Japan and Alaska.

He attended Medical School at the University of Cincinnati and followed by a Pathology Residency at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. He completed dual Fellowships at the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's Office in Florida and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

He married Jana Gale Utley August 16, 2000 in San Diego, California.

John loved to travel and spend time in nature hiking and stargazing, and passionately pursued numerous hobbies including numismatics and writing. 

He was a steadfast Servant of Christ, a devoted and patient husband, inspirational teacher and mentor, fierce and loyal friend, and an unrivalled Uncle who will be most remembered for his wry sense of humor, humility and integrity.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Marguerite Wayne; grandparents, Van and Clara (Givens) Wayne, David and Alice Massie and grandparents-in-law, Everett and Verna Yelland.

He is survived by his brothers Joseph (Kathy) Wayne and Thomas Wayne; nieces and nephews, Emily and Jeff Flack, Hannah Lambert, Rachael Utley, Darrick and Jennifer Utley, Nate and Elizabeth Halla, Ryan and Trish Halla; great nephews and niece, Callum, Robert, Lily, Thomas, Mason, Lincoln, Hudson, Ethan and Matthew;  aunt-in-law, Pamela Lord; sister-in-law, Michelle Whalley and husband, Andy; brother-in-law, Christopher Utley and wife, Shantell; and numerous other family members in West Virginia

John's life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 7 at 5:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Spurger, Texas.

In remembrance of John the family suggests donations in his name to the ASCP Foundation to support education and training of future Laboratory Science professionals and Pathologists, a fitting tribute to the profession he loved.  ASCP grants and committee participation were invaluable in his early education and career.  https://store.ascp.org/donation
