Jimmie Williams Obituary

Jimmie Joe Williams, born April 27, 1932, went home to be with the Lord on December 5, 2024. He was a devoted Child of God, a loving husband, dad, grandad, great-granddad, son, and brother.

On October 31, 1952, he married the love of his life, Mary A. Jordan. Together for more than 72 years, they raised their seven children. In addition to being a husband and father, Dad served as a Corporal in the Army and Reserves. After the army, he worked two or three jobs at a time to support his family.

As busy as he was, Dad made the time, along with Mom, to ensure his children knew about the Lord.  He was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and an active church leader for 60 years, including tolerating youth camps for more than 15 years.  But church life was only a small part of this service.  He also attended and chaperoned many school functions for all his children.  Perhaps, however, in addition to his gentle spirit, Dad was known best for his sly, grim, and dry sense of humor (which was probably necessary to raise all of those kids!)

Dad is survived by his wife, Mary A. Jordan Williams, and his children, Sarah L. Costa and husband Ron; David Williams and his wife Linda; Joe B. Williams, Sr. and his wife Ranata; Paul M. Williams and his wife Sherry; Rebekah L. Starr and Ruth A. Williams; his seventeen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Maxine Jones along with a host of other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Clifton and Ruby Williams; daughter, Cynthia Ann Williams; sister, Sara J. Douglass; brother-in-law, Robert Jones and his great-granddaughter, Emily P. Williams.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 2 pm at the Beech Creek Baptist Church in Spurger with Brother Cole Clark officiating.  Burial will follow at the Beech Creek Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 5 pm until 8 pm at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel.
