In celebration of a life well lived…

James Lynn Mayo 78 of Beaumont Texas peacefully passed away, Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

Born Saturday, May 22, 1942 in Spurger Texas to Bernice Edgar and Faye Ora Coleman Mayo. “Little Brother” to Marjorie Faye Mayo Jordan, Richard Coleman Mayo, and Robert Harmon Mayo. “Dad” to Russell Christopher Mayo, James Patrick and Lisa Mayo, and Joseph Daniel Mayo. “Grandpa” to J.P. Mayo and Shelby Broussard, Jessica and Jonathan Dearing, and Virginia Catherine Rose Mayo.  “Unka Lynn” to Gayla Roberts, Dell Buoy, Jim Carroll, Cheryl Rice, Kenny Osburn, and Wayne Mayo.  “Our Deacon Lynn” to his “church family” members of Curtis United Methodist Church of Jasper Texas. “Granddaddy” to the neighbors, friends of the family, their kid’s, and their pets too! “Mayo” to the friendly folks at Kinsel Ford of Beaumont Texas, and just about anyone in Southeast Texas that hasn’t been mentioned.

Born, raised, and graduated high school in Spurger Texas.  Dad was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1960 – 1967, where he received instruction and training in chemical and oil refining engineering and operations.   He was employed in the chemical and oil industries from 1968-1978, his last post was in Algiers, Algeriawhere he suffered a massive heart attack 7/78’.  Over the next 42 years Dad lived life to its fullest, enjoying every minute with his family, and friends, and always in praise and service of our lord and savior, Jesus Christ, and our father God.

Excerpt from James Patrick “Jim Pat” Mayo’s words spoken Sunday, September 6, 2020.

“Just a few words today about my dad.

We all have our cross to bear in this life. 

Dad had that presence about him that would ease that burden, even if just for a little while. 

No matter if that person was family, friend or just someone he happened to be chatting with.

In my darkest hour, he was my unshakable beacon of hope that guided me out into the light. 

I truly believed at the time; all hope was lost. 

I’m certain many of you could attest similar examples.

I remember being worried about something that was giving me anxiety. 

I confided in dad, He listened and then said: Son, no matter what; they can’t eat you. 

Well that’s true, cause here I am.

Dads other quick adages like, that’s bird nest on the ground! or I’m in High cotton; generated that smile and just for the moment lightened things up. 

Dad would remind me from time to time that the sun sets even on a bad day.

My dad never met stranger, cause when he left, they were friends. 

Are you Lynn Mayo's boy? is a common question around southeast Texas.

Dad also had no idea the meaning of lunch hour. 

I knew what I was in for when going to lunch.

You know I’d love to have that challenge one more time.

Every friend I have, all my children’s friends that met dad, loved dad.

He was everyone's Granddaddy!

In closing, I loved my dad and you know what?

He loved me.

This world is far less without him in it.

Dad was laid to rest in the Beech Creek Baptist Cemetery of Spurger Texas, by Riley’s Funeral Home of Woodville Texas, Sunday, September 6, 2020.

In lieu of sympathy, cards, flowers, plants or the like, the family respectfully request contributions be made in Dad’s name to Curtis United Methodist Church of Jasper Texas and Wounded Warrior Projects please.
