James Kelley Obituary

James “Jimmy” Kelley gained his wings on July 05, 2024 following a brief and intense battle with pancreatic cancer. Often we are left feeling things went unsaid when a loved one passes on, the same cannot be said for Jimmy. Jimmy was a man who always reminded you of his love, he was caring and compassionate and full of life. Not a day went by that you didn’t know that he was there for you when you needed him.

Jimmy was the kind of husband that still held his wife's hand, sneaked her secret kisses when no one was looking and danced with her in the kitchen. Being a dad was absolutely the greatest joy of his life. He was the fun dad who never tired of spending time with his three children. Whether it was movie night, teaching them to play chess, engaging in spirited nights of board games, spending time at the deer lease, or having a fun day outdoors on the water, he was committed to the adventure and loved every second of it.

Jimmy was the son who grew up to be a best friend. The kind of man that Susan and Royce not only loved, but respected and admired. He was the kind of brother everyone would be so lucky to have. He would not only help Micheal find trouble, he would always be there to help find a way out of it. He was the brother-in-law you always looked forward to sharing a cold beer with, a man you were confident would look after and love his family the way a man should. He was the grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle and great uncle that anyone would love, always full of laughs and always up for a good time.

Jimmy was the friend you had for life. No matter the time apart or miles between, you knew he would be there for you. He was always the guy you wanted on your team at play or work.

Jimmy loved being a Captain. He was always at home on the water and could drive any vessel you put him in the wheelhouse of. He was the one you could count on to keep a level head and be there to stand shoulder to shoulder with you to face any situation. He was also the one you hoped was cooking something in the galley, because you knew it would be good. There are a lot of words that have been used to describe Jimmy, but the best way to sum it all up is that he was truly one of a kind.

Jimmy will be welcomed into Heaven by the loving arms of many family and friends, but the most precious will be his sweet Mama, Susan Kelley. She was his first true love and that adoration endured up to the very final moments of his life on Earth.

Jimmy was a stranger to no one and a friend to most, there are really too many to list of those of us he left behind. However, we must acknowledge those who loved him the most. His wife of seventeen years, Brandy Kelley. His beautiful daughters, Brooke and Abigail, son Cody Curtis, father, Royce Kelley, brother, Micheal Kelley and wife Ann, brother-in-law Micheal Whitten and wife Roxanne, sister-in-law Jenifer Clayton and husband John.

Jimmy’s family will lay him to rest on July 16th in a small personal ceremony at Forest Park Cemetery East.
