Jack Lewellen Obituary

Jack Mockford Lewellen passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in Henderson, Texas. He was born September 22, 1932, in Haskell, Texas, to Ada Lorene and Clifford Lewellen.

Jack joined the Air Force while in High school in Dallas. After school, he began working for the Western Weighing and Inspection Bureau, which supervised the railroad west of the Mississippi to Arizona. In 1951, the Air Force sent his medical corps to Donaldson AFB in Greenville, S.C., where he met Lois. They were married on May 16, 1952. He moved back to Dallas in 1953 once the Korean War ended. Jack went back to work for the Bureau and became an agent in charge in 1958. Jack became a Christian in 1959 and was licensed to preach in 1964 at the Greenwood Village Baptist Church in Houston. Jack began preaching at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in 1965. For 12 years, he went back and forth from Houston. Jack remained the Pastor for 33 years at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. In 1977, Jack left the Bureau after 27 years, and they moved to Colmesneil. After Mt Carmel, he pastored at various churches, Toledo Bend Baptist for a few years, and then to Beech Creek Baptist until 2021 when he retired. He was ordained by Greenwood Village Baptist Church. Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, was a chairman of the Sabine-Neches Baptist Area, and a chairman of the Missions Development Council of the New Bethel Association. Jack was a certified volunteer chaplain at the Gib Lewis Prison and on the board of the Chapel Life Ministries whose purpose is to plan and implement the construction of a Chapel at the Gib Lewis Unit.


Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lois Lewellen, his parents, Lorene and Clifford Lewellen, sister Jesse Ewton and husband David, sister Patricia and Ronnie McDaniel, brother Jerry Lewellen

Jack Lewellen is survived by his brother Jim Lewellen, son Michael Lewellen and wife Rachel, Daughter Robbie Henderson and husband,  Joe; daughter Laura Fountain and husband, Jeremy; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Services for Bro. A funeral service for Jack Mockford Lewellen, 92, of Colmesneil, Texas, will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas, with Chaplain Michael Maness and Chaplain Virginia Haynes officiating.   Burial will follow at Beech Creek Baptist in Spurger, Texas, under the direction of Riley Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. 

Pallbearers will be Brent Swanzy, Lance Graham, Zach Graham, Blaise Horne, Shawn Horne, and Matthew Nolan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Heath Henderson, Shawn Lewellen, Stephen Lewellen, and Gregory Lewellen.
