On Thursday, December 16, 2021, after 95 years of a beautifully love-filled and adventurous life, Evelyn Sheffield Wright went home to meet her sweet Lord and Savior in heaven.
Evelyn was born on January 2, 1926, to Gordon and Pearlie Sheffield in Spurger, TX. She had one brother, James Marcus Sheffield. Evelyn also had many cousins with whom she grew up with - running around and chasing armadillos to pull them out of their hidey-holes by their tails, among other things. Evelyn was fearless. She paved the way for her daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters as she graduated first from Lamar Junior College with her associate degree before transferring to Stephen F. Austin to graduate with her bachelor’s degree. Evelyn did not stop there; she attended the University of Houston where she earned her Master’s in Education. She had a passion for teaching and growing others, which she did for over 30 years before retiring from the Crane Independent School District.
After being away for some 40 years, Evelyn and her husband, Eddie Wright, moved back to Spurger. She was very active in her church, First Baptist Church - Spurger, where she continued her love of teaching and growing others by serving as a Sunday School teacher. Evelyn also loved growing and creating things. She had an amazing green thumb and could make anything come alive; additionally, she had a talent for creating beautiful cross stitches that looked like works of art. Evelyn loved traveling and traveled across the country with both friends and family - even having gone down the side of the Grand Canyon on a donkey!
Above all else, Evelyn loved her Lord and she loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Pearlie Sheffield; her husband of 51 years, Eddie Wright; her brother, Marcus Sheffield; and, son, Larry Wright.
She is survived by son, Harold Wright and wife, Cheryl of Alvin; daughter, Ginger Everett and husband, Glenn, of Shertz; and daughter, Ann Hogan and husband, Felder of Lake Jackson. Grandchildren include: Eddie Ray Wright, Larry Wright, Jr., Peggy Ann Everett, Joshua Everett and wife, Nina, Rachel Jones and husband Clint, and Cara Hogan. Great-grandchildren include: Haley Wright, Nathan Wright, Mackenzie Wright, Luke Everett, Emma Everett, and Olivia Evelyn Jones.
While Evelyn will be missed, she will never be forgotten, or gone from our hearts or thoughts. We rest assured in her eternal life in heaven for John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
