Emma Fay Carter

Fay Carter, 90, made a peaceful trip to heaven on July 11, 2022. She is now with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved husband, Mel.

Born in Anderson County, Texas in 1931, she married the love of her life, Mel Carter while working in the advertising profession in Beaumont, Texas in 1971.  They were married 22 years until Mel went to heaven in 2003.

Fay loved and shared Jesus, teaching the importance of being faithful to Christ in all areas of life.  After moving to Hillister in the early 1980’s, Mel and Fay joined Bethel Baptist Church in 1983 and faithfully served the Lord there.  Fay served in several different capacities at Bethel, including serving as Financial Secretary for eight years and as church clerk and editor of the Bethel’s monthly newsletter, “The Bethel Beacon” for over 35 years.

In her spare time, Fay was an avid reader, especially Perry Mason novels.  She also tended to many discarded dogs, finding homes for them or keeping them for herself.  Though she never had children of her own, she was a “grandmother” to many children at Bethel.

Fay was preceded in death by her husband, Truman Melder Carter; parents, Eugene and Lula Mae Bailey’ sister, Mary Feener; and brothers, George Bailey and David Bailey.

Fay is survived by her sisters, Marie McDonald and husband, Bill of Silsbee, Tx and Jeannie Grinnell of Seabrook, Tx and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service was held Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 10 am at the Bethel Baptist Church with burial following at the New Hope Cemetery in Warren, Tx.
