Eleanor Jordan Obituary

Eleanor Jordan for Christians, Christmas is a time when get together with family to celebrate the birth of our Savior. This year we did not get to spend Christmas with our Mom, she was preparing to celebrate with Dad at Jesus feet and the rest of us will just have to wait. Mom made that final journey on December 31, 2020, at the age of 87 years. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 Eleanor Jordan was a devoted “Momma” to her children Mike Jordan and wife, Reba of Longview, TX, Patricia Zachary and husband, Jim of Spurger, TX, Cindy Arnold of Spurger, TX, Joan Brock and husband, Ronnie of Empire, OK and Lynn Collins and husband Bill of Conroe, TX. She was the beloved “Mamaw” or “Grandma” to her nineteen grandchildren, Wes, Kevin, Katie, Jeremy, Trishell, Jennifer, Shawna, Zach, Jamie, Beau, Jay, Kahla, Katelyn, Lydia, Brandon, Cole, Abbey, Will and Ella.   She had nineteen great grandchildren with more on the way. Most of all, she was the beloved of her husband, “Bo” who has been waiting for her arrival for 25 years. What a glorious day they must have just had. Mom was seventeen years old when they married and they shared 44 years together before his too soon passing. A genuine lover of people, Eleanor knew no strangers. From her smile, her laugh, to her expressions of concern or empathy, to speak with Eleanor was to connect to a woman who always had time to listen to friends and family. She genuinely cared about you.  Eleanor’s family would be the first to agree and to tell you she modeled the love of 1 Corinthians 13 and the “blessed woman” of Proverbs 31. Perhaps her greatest teaching was simply the way she led her life. It reflected the warmth and kindness of Jesus. Her smile never faded, her grace never wavered, and her caring spirit lives on in the many lives she touched.  After her retirement from Citizens State Bank, she dedicated her time to her family and the children of the Spurger Elementary School where she served as volunteer reading buddy to the young students. She was also active in the FCE, Family and Community Education organization and was honored to have been selected Woman of the Year by that group. She particularly enjoyed their trips to various spots across Texas for the annual FCE conventions. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Spurger where she worked in the food pantry as long as her health allowed.

Eleanor was the youngest daughter of Lilly and Bud Griffith and the last of their four children to pass on to glory. Although all of her siblings lived “down the country” they all came to see “Ma and Pa” almost every weekend and we older kids spent much of our early years with our cousins being our best friends. Eleanor is survived by many of those beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Dogwood Trails Manor for their love and care for our mom during her final days. A special thanks to Delphanie McFarland, who became Mom’s “best friend” during her time there. We also thank the staff at Olive Branch Hospice who have become our extended family as they ministered to us and our loved ones over the past few months.
