Dorothy Elaine Hancock Harvey Anderson
Elaine was born March 4, 1932 to Allen Cannon Hancock, Jr. (A.C.) and Nora Elizabeth Mahaffey Hancock in Doucette, Texas. They moved to Chester, Texas, when Elaine was a toddler. They were blessed with two more daughters after settling in Chester. Pauline Elizabeth Hancock and Jackie Annette Hancock. Elaine married Joseph Wright Harvey, Jr. (J.W.) in Chester on June 14, 1950, and was blessed with two daughters, Judith Gail Harvey (Judy) on August 9, 1951, and Patricia Elaine Harvey (Patsy) on January 30, 1954.
Elaine worked at Chester State Bank for 20 years and was a member of Chester Baptist Church, where she served as the music director. She also played the piano when needed, taught the children’s choir, and directed them. After the death of her husband in 1971, she married Norman L. Anderson on May 21, 1973, and they resided in Spring, Texas. They were both established members of The First Baptist Church of Spring Forest for 38 years and continued to serve the Lord in many positions within the church.
Elaine and Norman moved to Pearland, Texas, in 2013 and settled near Judy. Norman passed away on October 14, 2014. Elaine then moved to Alvin, Texas, beside Judy and her daughter, Billie Jean, who were now located in Alvin, Texas. Elaine lived there on Billie Jean and Mike’s property near her four grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren until the Lord called her home on January 22, 2025.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, JW Harvey and Norman Anderson; mother and father, Nora and AC Hancock; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline and Kenneth Watson; Jackie and Walter Cowart; and son-in-law, Bill Hatcher.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Hatcher and Patsy Bradley and her husband, Glen Bradley; grandchildren, Billie Jean and Michael Hughes, Travis Jay and Amy Hatcher, Angela and Eric Johnson, Michael and Brennen Bradley; great-grandchildren, Destini and Bryce McCurley, Jalyn and David Hefner, Tyler and Naomi Hughes, Selbi and Coletyn Hunt, Jacob Hatcher, Dylan Hatcher, Cannon Hatcher, Ryan Magill, Lauren Magill, Mia Johnson, Max Johnson, Thomas Bradley and Elizabeth Bradley; great-great-grandchildren, Summer Hefner, Charlie Hefner, Kylee Hefner, David Hefner, Hallie Hughes, Riley Hughes, Waylon Hunt and Jensen McCurley
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1:30 pm at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at the Mahaffey Cemetery in Chester, Texas. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at the funeral home.
