Delia Marie Bates, 95, of Hillister, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026. She was born on February 26, 1931, in Paris, Arkansas, to John Bullock and Etter Simmons.
Delia married the love of her life, Howard Bates, affectionately known as "Cotton." She was known for her wonderful storytelling and the joy she brought to those around her. Her love for family was evident in everything she did, and she treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard "Cotton" Bates; her daughter, Frances Gober and husband Richard; her sons, Howard Bates and Bobby Bates; and her daughter-in-law, Vicki Bates.
She is survived by her daughter, Star Herrington and husband Scot, along with their five children; grandson Bo Gober and his six children; granddaughter Dena Chinery and husband Steven and their two children; granddaughter Jolee Shanley and husband Joe and their four children; granddaughter Mandy Matlock and husband James and their five children; grandson Robert Bates and his three children; granddaughter Rebecca Walsh and her two children; grandson Howard Bates and his two children; granddaughter Jessica Smart; as well as 21 great-grandchildren who were a constant source of pride and joy.
Delia will be remembered for the stories she shared, the love she gave so freely, and the lasting legacy she leaves through her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
