If you knew Cherri M. Phelps, you knew a woman who lived with her whole heart.
Cherri passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the age of 70. Born in Houston, Texas, on October 17, 1955, to Leslie and Doris Robinson, she grew into a woman of extraordinary curiosity, quiet strength, and fierce loyalty. She called Warren, Texas, home — and it is there she will rest.
Cherri met the love of her life, Douglas Phelps, at a best friend's house. It was love at first sight. From that day forward, they were soulmates — partners in life, in business, and in adventure. Douglas would say she let him fly high while she kept them grounded. Her support was unwavering, unapologetic, and the foundation of everything they built together.
Professionally, Cherri left her mark wherever she went. She worked as a paralegal for Joseph Silvas Law, managed federal funds for Moody Banks in Galveston, and served the State of Texas Ethics Commission overseeing candidate financial filings. She brought the same integrity to her work that she brought to every corner of her life.
Outside of work, Cherri followed her curiosity wherever it led. She loved long drives down back country roads, searching for wildflowers, forgotten homes, and whatever else the land had to offer. She adored sunflowers and had a soft spot for squirrels. She fished, went crabbing, and loved nothing more than a drive along the beach. Later in life, she took up mushroom foraging in the Big Thicket Preserve — because for Cherri, there was always something new to discover.
She baked artisan breads, canned her own foods, and traveled to Colombia and Costa Rica for the culture and the cuisine. The soundtrack to her life was 90's rock and the soulful voice of Etta James.
Cherri was, above all, real. She told the truth. She kept her ego in check. She never grew old in spirit. And if you needed her, she was there — no questions asked.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Doris Robinson.
Cherri is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Phelps; her sons, Joshua, Jacob, and Jonathan Clement; three grandchildren, Oliver, Eloise, and Maze; and her brothers, David and James Robinson.
A private memorial service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the family home in Warren, Texas.
Cherri Phelps was so much to so many. She will be deeply missed.
