Cecil Darnell Hammonds, 80, of Warren passed away peacefully on November 9, 2021.
Born January 16, 1941 in Grand Prairie, Texas to Arthur and Martha Hammonds, he lived in Nederland for many years before moving to Warren after retiring. Cecil had over 50 years of service with the Local 450 I.U.O.E. as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and traveling with his wife, Sam. If he was not found enjoying his past times, he could be found reading especially history which he truly enjoyed.
Cecil was a quiet man who loved and adored his family greatly. He was loved by all who knew him including his in-laws, Nancy and Dude Schuman who thought he hung the moon. He will be greatly missed.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Martha Hammonds and his brothers, Roy Hammonds, Frank Hammonds and Bobby Hammonds.
He was survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sharon “Sam” Hammonds; daughters, Lori Storey and husband, Michael of Nederland and Sheri Buchanan and husband, Jack of San Antonio; siblings, Dorla Lee McGlasson of Cedar Creek, Tommy Hammonds of Vidor, Arthur Hammonds of Nederland, Janie Austin and husband, Wayland of Vidor, Wanda Foxworth and husband, Larry of Magnolia, and Betty Bosarge of Vidor; grandchildren, Katelyn Muñoz and husband, Tyler, Ryan Storey, Kelsie Buchanan, and Jack David Buchanan; great granddaughter, Mary Clare Muñoz; and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, November 12, 2021, at 11 am at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Allison Cemetery in Warren, Texas. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.
The family asks that donations be made in their loved ones name to the American Lung Cancer Society or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
