Bonita Lolei Day passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024, in Maryville, Tennessee.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville, Texas. Officiating will be Pastor Stephen McBride. Serving as pallbearers will be Leon Sunday, Keith Bush, Lloyd Flowers, Curtis Day, Scott Sayre, and Ernest Western. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Wood, Gary Chamblee and Daniel Day.
Lolei was born on July 8, 1953, in Galveston, Texas, to Melvin and Marjorie Day. Later, she attended Tascosa High School and Amarillo College. In 1983, she moved to east Tennessee with her sister, Lawana Day, who was pursuing a degree there. Ultimately, they bought a house together and put down roots in Tennessee.
Lolei worked for over 40 years in several accounting positions, retiring in 2016 from U.S. Foods, where she received several awards for her meticulous work and quick mastery of the payroll system, for which she was solely responsible. Outside of work, she enjoyed reading, antiquing, and visiting the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Quite recently, her greatest joy was attending the 2024 Simon P. Day Family reunion and visiting with so many relatives she hadn’t seen in several years, plus a few great-great nieces she had never met.
Lolei was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Melvin Day and Marjorie Day and by her brother, Roger Dale Day.
She is survived by her brother, Danny Durand Day, and wife, Edna; sister, Lawana Faye Day; and nieces and nephews, Denise Daniels, Shelley Sayre, Mary Western, Michele Couret, Curtis Day, Daniel Day, and Chrystal Day.
The family requests donations be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America or the Wounded Warrior Project in lieu of flowers.
Services are under the direction of Riley Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
