Billy Dirl Smith, 89, of Spurger, passed away on September 15, 2024.
Born December 17, 1934, in Hanson, OK, to Clem and Virgie Smith, he has lived in Spurger since 1985. Billy and his loving wife of 66 years, Carol, moved from California to Texas, where they settled in Spurger, Texas. He retired from Ameri Glass in Beaumont, Texas, in June 2020. An avid deer hunter, he was an honorary Spring Hill Hunting Club member in Jasper, Texas. His favorite places were outside, fishing, camping, and working on vehicles. He played baseball in high school and men’s fast-pitch underhand softball. He coached women’s softball teams that included his three daughters and wife.
Billy was preceded in death by his father, Clem Thomas Smith; his mother, Virgie May Smith, and ten siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Carol Sue Smith; daughters Donna Sue Smith, Sharol Denise Smith, and husband Johnny Simpson, and Virgie Pauline Murray and husband Bill; nine grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
