Billy Jack Read

Billy Jack Read, 62, of Midway, Texas passed away May 2, 2025, way too soon for those who loved him.

Billy was born in Kirbyville, Texas to James Henry and Margaret Read the sixth of eight children they had. He lived in Midway for many years.  After retiring from Huntsville Memorial Hospital with 30 years of service, he worked at Buc-ees as a greeter, where his happy-go-lucky personality shone.  Billy drew in everyone he met with his contagious smile, giving personality and the joy of helping people.  But it was his enormous faith and love of God that was his biggest testimony.  People who knew Billy loved him.  He loved his God and his family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Billy was preceded in death by his father, James Henry Read, his mother, Margaret Williams Read, sister, Shirley Marie Read, and nephew, John Henry Morrow.

His loving family survives him; sisters, Jody Ann Read of Colmesneil, Barbara Gail Read of Colmesneil and Sandra Kay Read of Woodville; brothers, James Claiborne Read and wife, Beverly of Jasper, Roger Dale Read and wife, Kendra of Five Points, Alabama and David Wayne Read and wife, Cathy of Magnolia; nieces and nephews, Jamie Lee McCarrell and wife, Kristen, Jason William McCarrell and wife, Stephanie, Michelle Nicole Manuel, Leslie Sevela Stanley and husband, Kendrick, Marcus Shane Bradshaw and wife, Nicole, Robert Michael, Travis Michael, Christan Moody, Kimberly Smith and husband, Coty and Rebekka Read; numerous great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, many cousins that he treasured immensely, other much loved family members and numerous friends who he considered family..

Funeral service will be held Monday, May 12, 2025, at 12 pm at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Hatman officiating.  Burial will follow at the Ebenezer Cemetery in Colmesneil.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 am until 12 pm at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kendrick Stanley, Gavin Stanley, Marcus Bradshaw, Erasmus (PeeWee) Stanley, Donnie Jordan, and Alex Bradshaw.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ashton Williams and Challen Dale.

To honor Billy’s bright and colorful personality, we are asking attendees to wear respectfully colored clothing instead of the traditional dark colors.
