Billie Hicks Obituary

Billie Herschel Sheffield Hicks was born April 17, 1933, and peacefully entered heaven on December 23, 2019 at the age of 86. A life-long resident of Texas, Billie graduated from Spurger High School in 1950.  That same year, she married the love of her life, Lockey L. Hicks, with whom she enjoyed a blessed marriage of over 63 years.  Billie obtained Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Lamar University.  While living in Nederland, she taught in the Port Arthur public schools.  After Lockey retired from Texaco, they moved to Spurger and the family farm, and she taught at Woodville High School.  Billie was active in the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 60 years, first as a member of the Nederland Eastern Star Chapter No. 1079, and later as a member of the Spurger Eastern Star Chapter No. 315, where she served three times as Worthy Matron, and also as a District Deputy of the Grand Chapter of Texas Order of the Eastern Star.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spurger, and she and Lockey were active in The Gideons International.

Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lockey, and her parents William A. and Lela Sheffield.  She is survived by her son William A. Hicks and wife Sharon of Poolville, Texas, grandchildren Brandon Hicks and wife Fatima of Leander, Texas, Lt. Bryce Hicks (U.S. Navy) of Alexandria, Virginia, Lt. Brett Hicks (U.S. Navy) of San Diego, California, Briley Hicks and wife Haley of White Settlement, Texas, Brenna Hicks of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sheridan Gleason and husband Matt of Weatherford, Texas, great-grandchildren Christian Castro, Ace Gleason, Hollis Hicks, Pryce Gleason, and Carter Hicks, brother Vic Jeter and wife Estelle of Pahrump, Nevada, and sister-in-law Ann Lambert and husband Jim of Fort Worth, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday December 27, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Spurger, followed by an Eastern Star service also at the church.  A private burial will follow at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger.

Pallbearers will be William A. Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Brett Hicks, Briley Hicks, Matt Gleason, and Paul Hicks.
