Betty Ruth Bingham

Betty Ruth Watkins Bingham, 86, of Spurger passed away August 23, 2023.

Betty was born in Talco, Texas to Robert Lee Watkins and Mamie Dennis Watkins.  At the age of 3, her mother passed away and her dad’s sister, Mae, helped raise Betty.  She graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, Texas on May 28, 1954 where she served as the Drum Major for the band. She retired as the bookkeeper in the account department at the San Jacinto Savings and Loan in downtown Beaumont, Texas.  She and her late husband, James, were active members at the First Baptist Church in Spurger, Texas where they lived for many years.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Watkins and Mamie Dennis Watkins; husband, James E. Bingham; son, Chris Wedge; daughter, Debra Kay McKinley; special aunt, Mae and siblings, Guy William Watkins, Sybil Louise Watkins Williams, Robert, Jr. Watkins, Francis Lovan Watkins and Katie Marie Watkins McNair.

She is survived by her children, Kent Bingham, Marcia Bingham Dunaven and Sara Bingham Scott; grandchildren, David Bingham, Laura Bingham Nickoli, Tisha Keel Heathman, Whitney Scott, Brooke Scott, eight great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 10 am at the First Baptist Church in Spurger, Texas.  Visitation will be held Saturday at the church from 9 am until 10 am.  A private graveside service will be held.
