Aletha Hopson Strickland, 89, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2020 in Rockwall, Texas.
Born on July 19, 1930 in Benton, Arkansas to Alvin “Daddy Jack” and Marie “Big Momma” Spears. She spent her early years in Colmesneil before getting into the engineering field. Aletha was very successful at anything she set her mind to. She retired from NASA after years of service as a Systems Analyst. After retirement she enjoyed the simpler life and was a very successful gardener, she was proud of her “green Thumb”.
Aletha is survived by her Daughter, Terry Amyx and husband Leif of Rockwall; sons, Finnis Hopson and wife Glenelle of Cypress, David Hopson and wife Linda of Cypress; grandchildren, April Burke and husband Jeff of Houston, Amy Hurley and husband John of Franklin, Jill Burkey and husband Bill of Houston, James Hopson and Vennessa Jreij of Cypress; 8 Great Grandchildren; sister, Pam Lowe and husband John of Dallas; brother, Bart Spears of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sue Mann; brothers, Elton “Dodger” spears, Rusty Spears and Bob Spears.
A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at 1:00 pm at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Davis Cemetery in Colmesneil. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12:00 until 1:00 at the funeral home.
